BIO
Sofia Gutman is an animation and film director from Jerusalem. In 2014 she graduated with honors from the 'Screen Based Arts department' at Bezalel Academy of art and design, where she directed the film Rehovot, who won the SNUNIT award (סנונית). During an exchange she studied at : ENSAD Paris.
As a storyteller, Sofia puts in the center of her narratives meaningful female
characters, and enjoys creating new surreal visual worlds for each film.
Her film NIGHT TRAIN\רכבת לילה won an award in Go Debut european film festival. Screened in KURZFILM festival, Hamburg, Festival du Film d'Animation de Savigny, festival national du film d'animation, Rennes & others.
Her new animated documentary LOST VILLAGES\כפרים אבודים has participated in the residency La maison des auteurs, la cité de BD, Angoulême and was selected to the workshop of Valence festival des scénaristes.
Sofia's award winning film AUTUMN \סתיו was exhibited in numerous festivals worldwide, including La fête de court métrage in France, Solidarity, T.A human rights film festival and Festival du film social, Nice.
As a story board artist Sofia worked on the series 'Les Palimpseste', directed by Ingrid agbo. She created the storyboard for '123 viva l'Algerie!' feature animated-documentry, produced by La belle affaire productions and screened in CINEMED, Festival International du Cinéma méditerranéen.
Sofia's scenario won the plume the crystal award in Valence festival des scénaristes and development grants in both France and Israel. (France Tv, région Angoulême, CNC)
Sofia is a member of the Israeli writers guild and is working on the developpement of a feature length film with the supprot of the ISRAEL cinema project.
